Local Public Eatery

My friends and I decided to stop at Local Public Eatery after shopping around South Common. The restaurant had a large open area and it was pretty loud in there for a Wednesday night. It had a very bar-like atmosphere but I saw families dining so I guess Local accommodates all ages. So what exactly makes Local stand out? It’s the only place in Edmonton to serve CHURROS!

I ordered a chicken taco and a fish taco, for $4.50 each. Both tacos came with garlic aioli, pico de gallo, and shredded cabbage. It was also served with hot sauce on the side. The fish taco was beer battered and the ratio of fish to toppings was a bit off. The chicken taco used crispy chicken and I loved it so much that I had to order another one! The chicken tacos here were some of the best I had ever tasted. My second visit to Local in the same month consisted of only chicken tacos being ordered.
My friend ordered crispy chicken sandwich with fries ($14) which she really liked. She said it was a big portion as well!

My other friend had the tuna club sandwich, served with fries. The sandwich consisted of Ahi tuna, smoked bacon, avocado, and melted cheddar. It kind of looked like a grilled cheese sandwich but it was definitely more filling.

For dessert, we finished off with churros! It was $4.50 for 5 churros, and came with hazelnut cocoa and marshmellows for dipping. It was my first time ever trying churros, and I really liked it at Local! If you don’t know what they are, churros are fried Spanish doughtnut sticks covered in sugar. Perfect for those with a sweet tooth.

I tried the pomegranate mojito ($7) when I went to Local the second time. Our waitress told me that it was used with pomegranate juice but it was still tasty. Unlike the other mojitos I’ve had at other restaurants, Local used Appleton rum which made my drink have a different taste. I would recommend this drink for those who love mojitos or fruity cocktails.
Overall, Local was reasonably priced and the food was delicious. It’s owned by Joey Restaurants and is worth a visit if you happen to be around the southside.
