Flame & Barrel

I’m

If you’re looking for a new place to check out in Southwest Edmonton, head over to Flame & Barrel! It’s located in Windermere, in the same shopping area as Superstore. They focus on offering comfort dishes and globally-inspired items made with fresh ingredients. The restaurant is open every day of the week for lunch and dinner, and brunch on the weekend.

There is a good selection of appetizers to choose from. During a past visit, I tried the peruvian beef skewers which I enjoyed. This time, I started off my dinner with two of their recommended appetizers, bruschetta and frutti di mare.

The bruschetta consisted of French baguette topped with tomato, onion, basil, olive oil, grana padano, garlic, and balsamic reduction. Altogether, it was a fresh and flavourful combination. I liked how there was an assortment of toppings because other places that I’ve tried it from usually pile on the tomatoes. The frutti di mare was similar to calamari. It had fried flour-dusted squid, salmon, and shrimp, and was accompanied by a garlic mayo for dipping.

For the main dish, my boyfriend had their 10oz ribeye steak. It was served with a side and vegetables. He opted for the loaded potato, which was considered a “premium substitute” for an additional charge. He’s a big fan of ribeye steaks and the one at Flame & Barrel did not disappoint. I tried some of it and thought it was tender and juicy. His choice of the loaded potato was excellent, I found myself sneaking bites of it in between my own meal.

The cajun chicken carbonara caught my eye on the menu. I enjoy both items separately but I’ve never had them together until now. The cajun chicken here certainly had a mild kick. I am sensitive to spice though so you might not find it as spicy as I did! The pasta was creamy and seemed neverending in the bowl. Overall, it was a filling dish and you’ll probably have leftovers for the next day like I did.

We ended our meal with this beautifully presented dessert. It’s usually brought out for special occasions such as a birthday or an anniversary. For our dessert choices, we had a creme brulee and molten brownie. Can’t go wrong with a creme brulee but the molten brownie was something else. It was brought out on a mini pan that still sizzled when it got to our table!

This wasn’t my first time at Flame & Barrel. I had originally gone when it first opened back in Spring 2022. After my recent visit a few weeks ago, I could see that they’ve made improvements since then. This is a good place to check out if you’re in the neighborhood. They have daily specials every day of the week and happy hour from 12 – 4 PM and 9 PM – close.
