Cibo Bistro

In the words of my fellow foodie that I dined with, Cibo was “a refreshing lunch.” Cibo is a small restaurant with a minimalistic interior, in Oliver Square, that offers authentic Italian dishes. It was my third time here for lunch and I enjoyed it, just like on my previous visits.

Although their lunch menu is small, there is still variety and I find the prices to be quite affordable considering the tastiness of the food. For appetizers, you can choose from a daily soup, 2 types of salads, arancini, or polenta fritta. Their entrees include 2 types of pasta and 2 sandwiches, usually the meatball sandwich and a sandwich feature that is served with the daily soup or arugula salad.

I ordered the meatball sandwich with arugula salad for $13. The portion of the salad was huge and the arugula was very fresh. My sandwich consisted of 3 meatballs, wilted arugula, smoked cacicavollo, and tomato basil jam. I could tell that the meatballs were freshly made in-house with a soft texture. The tomato basil jam was the right sauce for the sandwich because it added a nice creamy flavour. This sandwich is definitely worth trying out if you’re not feeling like pasta!

My friend ordered the tortiglioni ($13), which he quickly devoured. I had a taste of it and felt that the pasta was cooked just right, with the perfect amount of sauce and flavouring.

My other friend that we dined with ordered the bucatini, for $13. I had ordered this dish on my previous visit and really liked it. The bucatini tasted like a pasta dish straight from a restaurant in Italy. The ratio of pasta to meat was just right as well! As small as it looks in the photo, it is actually quite filling.
For beverages, one of my friends and I decided to try out the dry sodas ($4 each). She had the dry rhubarb soda and I had the dry cucumber soda. We decided that the sodas added a refreshing touch to our lunch, but that next time we would stick with our usual limonatas. We didn’t order dessert but I had tried the chocolate hazelnut torta on a previous visit and would definitely recommend that!
Overall, Cibo Bistro is a great place for a taste of Italy and I will be back to try out their dinner menu soon.
