Downtown, Edmonton

District Coffee Co

After opening last month, I finally found some time to check out District Coffee Co yesterday, located downtown. The cafe itself had a nice minimalistic feel about it with only a few tables and a bar table design looking out onto the street. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any photos of its interior so I guess you’ll have to check it out yourself to see it!
District is the first one in Edmonton to carry Calgary’s Phil & Sebastian coffee. Along with that, they have the usual cafe drinks (tea, cappucino, latte, etc). Other drinks include San Pellegrino sparkling beverages and Upson’s classic Lemonade and Grapefruit Cordials. For food, there are pot pies, soups, an egg salad sandwich, and brioche on the menu. I didn’t get the chance to try out any baked goods but their lemon meringue looked quite delicious.

My friend and I each got ourselves a London Fog, one of my all-time favorite hot drinks. Also, we needed something hot because it was snowing on our way walking there (typical Edmonton weather). Our London Fogs had a good amount of foam on it.
He got the beef barley soup and I got myself a chicken pot pie with a cup of dill pickle potato soup. Okay so if you’ve never tried dill pickle soup, you definitely need to. I’m not a big fan of dill pickles but I’m a huge potato lover and after hearing about the dill pickle potato soup at District, I knew I had to try it. The potato chunks in it out-flavoured the sourness of the dill pickles to create an unforgettable combination. It was one of the best soups I had ever tasted. The chicken pot pie was served with some cranberry jam on top. I wasn’t a big fan of the jam and wish that I was told about it when I was ordering. The crust of the pie was flaky but not too crumbly or soft. It had the usual filling, along with mushrooms.
Pricing wise, it was $4 for lattes, $8 for a pot pie, and $4 for a cup or $6 for a bowl of soup. I will definitely be returning to District to get more of the dill pickle potato soup and try out some of their baked goods.
