Edmonton, Jasper Ave, Late Night Bites

Wishbone (Closed)

Wishbone has been open for almost a year now but I didn’t try it out till last weekend. Located on Jasper Ave right above Red Star/Lockstock Coffee, it’s owned by Three Boars and Farrow Sandwiches. They call themselves an Oyster + Snack Bar, and that’s exactly what their menu consists of.

Interior

Their interior was cute and inviting. Wooden panels covered the walls with little plants here and there. My friend and I stopped by for an early Saturday night dinner but it was surprisingly empty. It was very warm outside though so maybe that was why. Empty restaurants = better service so I’m not really complaining!

“Old Bae” Fries $5

Usually fries covered in seasoning and served with a mayo dip are my kinda thing. Sadly, these “old bae” fries were a miss. The name is a reference to Old Bay seasoning usually found on seafood. At Wishbone, it’s a mixture of salt, pepper, coriander, and paprika. However, it was overly salty with a hint of sweetness. My friend and I struggled to finish these fries (and you guys should know how much I love carbs), when the serving wasn’t even a lot. Just like that old bae of yours, don’t bother with these fries.

Lobster Roll $15

Of course I had to order their lobster roll and see if it lived up to the hype! The bun was soft and buttered, stuffed with lobster. Thankfully, they didn’t skimp out on the lobster. It was topped with hickory sticks which I very much enjoyed. Overall, it was tasty but it was a small portion so I wouldn’t recommend sharing this.

Beef Skewers 3 for $7

I believe that skewers are a newer addition to their menu. You can choose from pork, beef, or chicken. My friend and I decided to share an order of the beef skewers. These were… sad. Each skewer was TINY. The beef was very chewy, and lacked juiciness and flavour. My friend and I both agreed that we’ve had way better skewers at other place (like at Tropika).

Although the interior of the restaurant was cute, the food was not. I probably wouldn’t come back unless I was really craving a small $15 lobster roll. I was slightly disappointed as I’ve heard great things about this place. Maybe I should’ve wished for a good experience before coming to Wishbone?
