Bodega Tapas and Wine Bar

Around the time when patio season was still possible in Edmonton, I tried out Bodega Tapas and Wine Bar. It’s part of Sabor Divino restaurant on the bottom floor, and serves tapas (appetizer-sized dishes) but also a few entrees as well. The interior of it is simple and modern, with wooden and brick walls to create a homey but sophisticated feel. Their menu changes seasonally so some of the items that I’m going to blog about won’t be on it anymore!

I ordered a daily cocktail ($7.50) for myself which is created by the bartender the day of. Since it was a hot summer day (yes I know, this blog post is super delayed), I ordered a strawberry vodka. It was super refreshing and fruity, which I loved!

For appetizers we decided upon the duo of olives and stuffed cherry tomatoes. I normally don’t like cherry tomatoes but these were stuffed with bacon cream cheese that was made in-house. The bacon cream cheese added so much flavour to the cherry tomatoes and made it enjoyable! The creaminess and smokiness added onto the freshness of the cherry tomatoes. This item is complimentary during Bodega’s happy hour (4:30-6:30 pm).

We also shared a scalloped cream filled potato that was made with a small fried egg on the very top layer. Layers and layers of savoury potato slices. Sadly, this is no longer on the menu.

For one of our main dishes, we had the seafood paella ($32). It was a mixture of prawns, scallops, calamari, mussels, clams, and vegetables in a saffron rice. Basically a seafood lover’s dream dish. All the seafood tasted fresh and the saffron rice wasn’t too bland, which complimented the seafood.

The other dish that we ordered was lobster risotto ($28). This dish was definitely a winner! It wasn’t too rich or heavy yet it still remained creamy. There was a good amount of lobster chunks and the risotto itself was very well-made. I highly recommend trying this out, especially if you’re a risotto lover.

To finish off our exquisite lunch, the triple chocolate slab ($9) was part of the sweet ending. It was a combination of dark and white chocolate with an oreo cookie crust at the bottom. It was served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and blueberry coulis.

The other dessert that we had was the Chilean Carica fruit ($8). Slabs of carica, similar to papaya, were filled with vanilla cheesecake then topped with raspberry coulis. A mango foam added more tanginess to the dessert. The bad news is that this dessert isn’t available anymore because of importing reasons with the carica fruit. Sad face!
If you’re feeling like it’s time for a tapas night, maybe stop by Bodega to try out tapas and have a drink. But if you want the full meal then Sabor Divino is always located within the same building!
