Dadeo New Orleans Diner and Bar

Illuminated by neon purple lighting lies Dadeo on the streets of Whyte Ave…
So what brings my friend and I here on a Friday night when we could be studying? Sweet potato fries and po boys of course. Dadeo is a small New Orleans diner (no minors!) that certainly has that authentic “diner feel” to it, with a great atmosphere. Along with po boys and sweet potato fries, there’s also jambalaya, oysters, and gumbo as some of the other menus on the menu. We actually got seated pretty quick and the service/food was very fast for a busy night.

I didn’t take a picture of the complimentary biscuits and jalapeno jelly we got as an appetizer but the biscuits were pretty small! The jalapeno jelly tasted like sweet chili sauce to me.

I decided to order the calamari po boy ($13 + $1) because that’s what had caught my eye when I looked at the menu online. Their po boys are normally accompanied by potato hash or jambalaya rice but I decided to get their sweet potato fries for an extra $1. The po boy was stuffed with deep fried calamari, lettuce, 2 slices of tomato, herb mayo, and scratch cocktail sauce in between a French loaf. The calamari was nicely battered and not too oily. There was a fair amount in the po boy. It was a bit challenging to eat at first cause the calamari kept falling out! The French loaf that Dadeo uses is fresh as well and not too dry. Dadeo is also well known for their sweet potato fries, which are battered and thickly cut.

My friend had the fried tiger shrimp po boy with sweet potato fries on the side ($13 + $1). She usually comes to Dadeo for po boys and seems to enjoy it every single visit. Her po boy had the same herb mayo, tomatos, and lettuce as mine. The fried shrimp was really crispy but wasn’t oily as well. She found the mayo to be a bit salty though.
If you’re planning to stop by for a po boy, it’s best to do it on a Monday or Tuesday when they’re on special for 10 dollas! Or stop by anyways on any other day to check out this unique New Orleans diner.
