Rollies Ice Cream (Closed)

How do you roll?

Edmonton’s newest rolled ice cream store has recently opened up! Rollies, located in the food court of Westmount Centre, offers customized rolled ice cream creations year-round. Now you won’t have to wait until the summer to get your fix. They are planning to expand to other locations later this year, including the Community Centre inside Kingsway Mall in May!

Their ice cream is made daily from an in-house custard. The ordering process is simple: choose a flavour for your ice cream base then choose 2 mix-ins. It’ll cost you $8, with additional mix-ins being an extra $1 each. They are currently working on a dairy-free and vegan menu. This location also offers all-beef hot dogs (mainly for the Shep kids) but their future locations will only be focused on ice cream.

Once you order, the ice cream is made quickly right in front of your eyes! Each order is hand crafted to perfection. First, the ice cream base and toppings/mix-ins are placed on top of a cold surface. It’s mixed together then spread all over the surface, where it’s smoothened out. Lastly, it’s rolled into ice cream rolls with a metal spatula. Complimentary toppings (whipped cream, Pocky sticks, sauces, wafer sticks, & more) are added on top, and that’s all, your creation is ready to be devoured!

Matcha Ice Cream Rolls $8

I decided to try their matcha ice cream, which is not on their menu yet. When I ordered, he asked me how much matcha I wanted and I told him half. I should’ve asked for the full amount because the matcha flavour wasn’t as strong as it could’ve been. Tweaks are still being made and matcha will be on the menu when the perfect matcha taste is achieved! My ice cream was mixed with strawberries, blueberries, and Ferrero Rocher. I chose an interesting combination to go with matcha but it tasted good together. There are 7 ice cream rolls in total and it’s very filling. Since the ice cream is made fresh, you can definitely taste the creaminess in each bite. The complimentary toppings that I got were whipped cream, green tea Pocky, and roasted marshmallows.

Mango Ice Cream Rolls $8

My friend is a big mango lover so she got mango ice cream with mangoes and pineapples. Her ice cream was very sweet and full of flavour! It was refreshing and tasted exactly like an actual mango. Her thoughts on the ice cream: “you know when you can’t stop eating cause it’s so good?” For her complimentary toppings, she got whipped cream, chocolate Pocky, and caramel/chocolate sauces.

I can’t wait to come back and try more combinations! I find eating regular ice cream to be boring so rolled ice cream definitely fits my taste. #howdoyouroll
