The Burger’s Priest

The Burger’s Priest is honestly a blessing to Edmonton.
We are the first location to open outside of Ontario and I cannot thank the owner enough. (Don’t worry Calgarians – he told me that they’re planning to open there as well). The Burger’s Priest is located right downtown, in that little area on Jasper Ave with Save On Foods and such. I’m sure you know where I’m talking about. This modern burger joint is an order, pay, pick up, and eat kinda place. They have a few tables for you to eat your burgers while listening to the workers yell out “Vatican” and such burger names. Just a warning that you will leave the place smelling like you’re the one that was cooking the burgers. But it’s worth it, trust me. So what’s on the menu? Burgers of course, they have your usual cheeseburgers (single or double patties) and then they have some quite unique burgers, such as portabello mushroom burgers, and burgers with grilled cheese for buns. Along with burgers there are 2 options for fries: regular and chilli cheese fries. Shakes are offered as well and for dessert there’s ice cream, cookies, and ice cream sandwiches. If you’re a vegetarian you’re in luck because they do have a vegetarian “burger” called the option. And for the burger risk takers – they have a secret menu on their site that requires you to answer a suuuuper hard question. It took me 4 tries to answer it sadly.

I have returned to the Burger’s Priest a few times after the training session and pricing wise, I’d have to say that it’s a bit overpriced for a burger joint. Even though most of the burgers are “different” from other places, the portions may or may not fill you up depending on what you order. It’s a good treat once in a while – pricing and health wise!

What does this have to do with burgers?

Jarged style single cheeseburger

At the training session, every pair was given a menu with 4 items to order off of. Each pair couldn’t order 2 of the same items, and were both given fries to accompany their burger. For myself, I decided to order the jarged style single cheeseburger. Jarged is an option that’s on their secret menu and it simply means that fried onions are added to the burger while the patties are grilled with mustard. After the training session, I loved it so much that I’ve had all my burgers jarged since I came back to The Burger’s Priest. The patty was made fresh and you could tell with every bite. The buns were soft and kept the burger altogether. The only downside I found was that the portion was a bit small. I still wanted more after I had finished! A single cheeseburger is around $7 – will update with exact prices when I come back and check.

Single cheeseburger with bacon

My friend enjoyed her cheeseburger with bacon. It came with the works, which is offered on all burgers. Lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, ketchup, and mustard.
The Vatican City

2 beef patties in between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches for $11. Are you up for the challenge? I’m not. I still recommend this to my friends who ask me what to eat though and they all loved it. Each bite is filled with juiciness, cheesiness, and probably regret. The burger is extremely greasy though, and it’s not the type of grease that only gets on your hands. The burger literally drips in grease. It makes me wonder how much grease this place goes through in a day.. You may or may not get a heart attack from this but it’ll probably be worth it. And make sure that you come with an empty stomach if you’re planning to order it.

The fries are around $3.50 and they only come in one size at the BP. They’re good for sharing between 2 to 3 people. I’m not the biggest fan of these fries, I found them to be too bland and they definitely weren’t salty enough. Good thing that there’s salt and ketchup offered at most tables though.
The milkshakes come in quite a few flavours: strawberry, chocolate, coffee, and mint chocolate chip for around $5. The sizing is about a small fountain drink cup that you’d get at a fast food place. The shakes were decent, not milky enough or maybe it needed a bit more ice cream to get a stronger taste. The only good thing was that it wasn’t thick. I found them to be too pricey for its taste and size. Also, there is no whipped cream. That’s suppose to the best part.

The verdict? The Burger’s Priest is definitely worth trying out. It’s Edmonton’s best burger place on my list for sure. Every time I come, there’s always a lineup almost out the door so either Edmontonians are loving it or they just love to follow the hype. Either way, I’m glad that these godly burgers are only a 5 minute walk from my school.
