Dream Tea House: Oliver Square

Dream Tea has opened their fourth location in Edmonton, located in Oliver Square. I’m pretty happy that I don’t have to go all the way to Whyte now for good bubble tea! The only downside? All my money is gonna be going towards them since they’re a 5 minute walk from Macewan University, oops.
The new Dream Tea location has the regular menu (bubble tea and shaved ice dessert) along with a food menu that the other locations don’t have. This location offers bento boxes that come with those addicting yam fries, noodle bowls, green onion wraps, rice bowls, and small Asian appetizers. The food takes a bit to come out, I’d say around 10-15 minutes, but the service is friendly.

I’m addicted to these. $4 will get you a basket of delicious, crispy yam fries that comes with the best garlic aioli sauce you’ll ever have. Seriously, Dream Tea is my go to place for yam fries. I wish they gave more sauce though.

At Dream Tea, they offer 3 different types of noodles: Japanese udon, Hong Kong style instant noodles (regular or satay), and Korean style kimchi noodles, which are spicy. The noodles are accompanied by your choice of seafood, Taiwanese fried chicken, or fried fish balls. All the noodle bowls are $8.49 each and come with mushroom, broccoli, and green onions. I found my noodle bowl to be filling and of a decent serving size. I ordered the regular Hong Kong style instant noodles with Taiwanese fried chicken. The fried chicken is served on the side, which is a bonus if you don’t want soggy fried chicken in your noodles.

The boneless Taiwanese fried chicken is seasoned with a bit of salt and pepper. The small pieces each have a bit of crispy skin and the meat itself wasn’t dry, but juicy.

Their bento boxes are $10.99 each and come with a green salad, rice, and your choice of Taiwanese fried chicken/yam fries or Korean grilled pork/fries/kimchi.

The takoyaki ($4.99) come in 6 pieces. They’re small steaming baked wheat balls that are filled with octopus then topped with tariyaki sauce, mayo, furikake, and those bonito flakes that my friends were scared of. Why? Because they move when they’re still hot! The takoyaki was flavorful and wasn’t too dough-y. Other small snacks that Dream Tea serves are calamari, chicken fingers, deep fried French toast, and green onion cakes for around $3 to $5.

The fusion wrap is perfect for a light snack. Their wraps are wrapped in a green onion crepe which I found added a more savoury taste to the wrap. It also came with cucumber, green onions, and Chinese parsley for the vegetable part. My wrap had BBQ duck and teriyaki sauce, so the sauce would’ve made it a bit sweet ($4.99) but the crepe evened it out. The BBQ duck tasted fresh and was a perfect complement to the teriyaki sauce.
I’m sure Dream Tea will be a hit within the downtown area and I’ll be back many times for sure! Probably right after I post this because I’m craving some yam fries and luckily I’m a quick walk away at the moment.
