Highlevel Diner

Quaint and homey. Two perfect words to describe Highlevel Diner. From the outside it probably looks like a regular diner but once you step inside, you feel like you’re in a cozy home. Too bad they don’t have couches to sit on, though. My friends and I recently went here for breakfast but they serve lunch and dinner as well. Highlevel diner also has themed days (Fish & Chips Mondays, Turkey Tuesdays, Ukrainian Thursdays, and Prime Rib Sundays), and I’m pretty sure many know about their famous cinnamon buns! I’ve had it before on a previous visit and it was probably the fluffiest cinnamon bun I had ever tasted.

To start off, we ordered a chai latte and hot chocolate. The chai latte was warm and aromatic while maintaining a creamy mix of sweetness and spices. It was topped with the right amount of foam and cinnamon. My friend’s hot chocolate was topped with a lot of whipped cream (probably not that healthy but definitely worth it) and tasted like a melted chocolate bar.

All 3 of us ordered breakfast specials. Decently priced at $7.99, the breakfast special is available weekdays from 7:30 am to 3 pm; perfect for those who don’t want to get up early! The special consists of farm fresh eggs, bacon, roasted potatoes, and buttered multi-grain toast. The eggs and potatoes are from a local producer (support local!!). The baby roasted potatoes were decently salted and tasted savoury when combined with the tanginess of Highlevel’s house-made ketchup. The eggs needed a bit of salt and pepper but overal, it was still filling.

We also ordered blueberry pancakes on the side. Filled with lots of fresh blueberries, I had never seen pancakes that were as big and fluffy!

Highlevel Diner is definitely one of Edmonton’s gem restaurants and I can see why.
