Indulgence

Earlier this month, I attended a food and wine pairing festival called Indulgence at The Delta Edmonton South. Although it has been around for 19 years, this was my first time partaking in it. Indulgence is an annual fundraister held by The Junior League of Edmonton. It is a volunteer-driven, charitable event in support of The Junior League of Edmonton and the students of the NAIT Culinary Arts program. Local chefs join Albertan food producers to create dishes that are then paired with Canadian VQA wineries, microbreweries, and distillers.

Disclosure: Although I was invited as a guest by The Junior League of Edmonton, my review is 100% unbiased and based on my own, sincere experience. 

How does it work? Restaurants are paired with a local farmer or rancher where they create a signature dish from a product grown or raised by that food producer. The signature dish is paired with a selection by a Canadian wine, local craft beer, or distiller.

Cilantro and Chive + North 49 Fruit: Haskap & Honey Panna Cotta

Kitchen by Brad + Irvings Farm Fresh: Kitchen Bacon

Courtyard By Marriott + Sylvan Star Cheese Farm: Sylvan Star Aged Gouda Cheese Wild Mushroom Arancini

Jacek Chocolate Couture: Tropical Tutti-Frutti Chocolate (it tasted just like summer).

Matrix Hotel + Mo-na Foods: A dessert of red gooseberry poached in fee brother rhubarb syrup, ramps, and dandelion honey custard, honey comb crumble, and rhubarb confit.

Ernet’s at NAIT + Gruger Family Fungi: A dessert of tonka bean meringue with apricot and golden oyster mushroom mousse.

Indulgence was an evening of delicious, local food & drinks while supporting a good cause at the same time! I am glad I got the chance to attend it this year and will be looking forward to it next year.
