Purple Bubble Tea Store

Wow long time no blog. Don’t worry, even though I haven’t been writing I’ve been eating for sure. Which means that you can expect a bunch of new posts soon! The latest place I’ve gone to is Purple Bubble, the newest bubble tea spot in town.
Dream Tea Oliver – you have some competition. Purple Bubble is located near Macewan University, on the same strip as where Kallin Restaurant is. It’s a brightly lit place that serves pages of bubble tea, snacks, rice dishes, and dessert! How do the prices and food compare to other bubble tea place? It’s priced equally the same while some food items are slightly better and there certainly is more variety.

Bubble tea is priced at either $5.49 or $5.99 with an additional charge if you want to change the toppings up. There’s a whole page dedicated to milk tea. My friends ordered the pudding milk tea and matcha one, which they really enjoyed. The pudding milk tea had bits of pudding in it. Although the milk teas did have a bit of a powdery taste to it, it didn’t affect the overall flavour. For myself, I ordered a lychee green tea. I usually order this whenever I go to any bubble tea place, just to see how it compares to others. At Purple Bubble, it was tasty and refreshing. The only thing I noticed was that the tea flavour wasn’t as strong as I like it to be.

Japanese Style Rice with Curry Beef $11.99
If you’re looking to have an actual meal at Purple Bubble, you’re in luck. They serve up different rice dishes such as the Japanese style curry beef as pictured. What’s so different about Japanese curry from Indian and Thai curries? It’s more thicker, similar to a stew and milder in flavour. I didn’t try this rice dish but my friend enjoyed it and noted that the portion size wasn’t as filling as he wished. Other rice dishes include Taiwanese style rice with stewed pork and BBQ pork & sausage on rice. There’s also a seafood ramen on the menu that I’m quite curious about!

Takoyaki (6 pieces) $5.99
The takoyaki appeared to be housemade as it interestingly had shredded carrot inside. The bonito flakes didn’t move either *sad face*. There was nothing special about the takoyaki here. It needed a bit more octopus inside and the takoyaki ball itself was too soft.

Egg Waffle $4.99
I’ll be honest, this egg waffle is the main reason why I keep going back here. It’s soft, fluffy, and comes out super warm. It comes with a small side of whipped cream. The size of the waffle is perfect for sharing but I’d honestly just eat it all to myself…

Fried Dumpling (6 pieces) $5.99
These pan fried dumplings were filled with pork and cabbage. They came out piping hot but I question if they were bought frozen from a local supplier.

Yam Fries $5.99
Yam fries are one of my favorite things in the world. Sadly, Purple Bubble disappointed me greatly. My first thought when it was brought to the table was: why is it served with ketchup? I’m sorry but who eats yam fries with ketchup?????? (If you do, I hope I didn’t offend you). I prefer my yam with aioli or mayo… Secondly, the fries were topped with a powder that tasted like cinnamon and made it sweet. Please, don’t try to make yam fries a sweet thing. They’re savoury. Sigh. Dream Tea, you won the yam fry competition.

Mango Snow Ice $6.99
The last item that my friends ordered when we went was snow ice which is pretty much shaved ice. There’s an option of matcha, vanilla, strawberry, and mango. We decided to try the mango flavour, which was topped with real mango pieces. It was very flavorful and the snow ice would melt in your mouth.
Purple Bubble is a great place for a hang out spot, especially since they open late nights. You can probably find me there with an egg waffle all to myself.
