Cora Breakfast and Lunch

I remember back in high school, Cora was one of my favorite restaurants to go to (note: this was when I was not a foodie). I was actually pretty sad when I heard that the Cora I frequented the most, in the northwest, had burnt down a few years ago. Thankfully, they rebuilt it from scratch and recently opened it again in the spring time this year.
There are a few Cora locations in and around the city but I prefer the north side location, on 137 ave. The inside is bright and cheery with yellow walls, like the original restaurant used to be. It gives off a “family” atmosphere and the friendly service adds to it. Cora is your typical breakfast place with different choices revolving around eggs, crepes, waffles, french toast, and omelettes. They also have a page of specials as well. Everything is decently priced on the menu.

I usually order the traditional breakfast combination whenever I go to a breakfast place. Here, I got the Jo Construction (weird name for it) which comes with eggs, bacon, 3 sausages, hashbrowns, and fresh fruit. Scrambled eggs were just eggs, you can’t really mess up eggs though. The hashbrowns were lightly seasoned and pretty tasty. They had a slight crisp to them so you weren’t served soggy potatoes. The sausage and bacon were both cooked well. The meal wasn’t anything special but it filled me up.

My friend had the burrito crepe which is on their “teen menu” except it’s meant for all ages. That makes sense I guess… He said that the portion was too small and that the burrito should’ve been made bigger. The burrito crepe was stuffed with scrambled eggs, black beans, grounded up meat, red and green peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese. It was served with the same hashbrowns as mine along with a side of salsa and sour cream. The salsa and sour cream were mixed together in a little bowl. It looked like soup to me and could’ve been presented better. In the end, he wish he had ordered something else.
We shared one of their tasty strawberries crepe. There is a choice of custard or chocolate hazelnut spread so we chose the former. They also offer a smaller size for a $1 less. The crepe was really sweet but the custard wasn’t too rich or creamy.
I would return to Cora in the future if I was craving breakfast food and didn’t want to go far from home.
