Sapporo Sushi (Closed)

Hello friends! Ramen has become one of my favorite foods and the last ramen-venture I went on was at Sapporo Sushi. It was my first time at Sapporo because I never really considered going there for sushi but I will go anywhere for ramen hehe. They’re located near Kingsway with an odd entrance (it faces an alleyway???) and the interior is similar to what one can find at a modern sushi shop in Japan.  The service was friendly and excellent while the food came out quickly. Sapporo recently started serving ramen on their menu for (only) $10.50/$11!! The closest pricing we will ever get to Vancouver ramen prices…
Devil ramen (top) x Shoyu ramen (bottom)

Sapporo offers 3 types of ramen: shoyu, miso, and devil. Shoyu ramen and miso ramen are both $10.50 while devil ramen is $11. Every bowl of ramen includes chāshū (thinly sliced and braised pork belly), kikurage fungus, corn, a slice of seaweed, bean sprouts, green onions, and a soft boiled egg, of course. The noodles are freshly made in-house while the broth is made from simmering pork bone. For myself, I ordered the shoyu ramen which means that soy sauce is added to the broth. The shoyu ramen was savoury but not too salty while the noodles are soft with every bite. I found the portion of the ramen to be a bit small since I was still hungry after the whole meal. My fellow friend had the devil ramen which was the spicy one out of the three offered. The devil ramen could be compared to bun bo hue (spicy Vietnamese soup) since there was a lot of spices and chillies added to it. We both agree that the ramen was decent.

Along with the ramen, I also ordered a dynamite sushi cone for myself. Sapporo has a variety of sushi cones for $4 each. The dynamite comes with shrimp tempura, avocado, rice, and then it’s wrapped in seaweed. The seaweed had a slight crunch to it and I didn’t find it too chewy. The cones are small here and you’d probably need at least 2-3 to satisfy. My friend had the spicy tuna roll, which came in 6 pieces for $5. It wasn’t really spicy and the rolls were nothing special.
The ramen is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area. I would probably come back for another bowl if I was in need of a lighter meal. The menu has affordable pricing, too, which is always a bonus!
