Edmonton, Northside

IHOP

I find IHOP to be one of those American chains that get overly-hyped up when it comes to Canada. Even though it has been open for a while now in Edmonton, I didn’t try it till it recently opened up in the northside. We came on a Monday evening when it was pretty slow but the food took a while to come out. With more of a family dining atmosphere, the pricing was reasonable and food was average at most.
“Nobody touch the food, we have to take pictures first!” I am not ashamed to say that my friend and I got up on the seats to take them. We’ll do anything for the perfect photo..

The majority of us ordered a Splashberry to drink, which was a mixture of orange juice, lemon-lime soda, and muddled strawberries. They were very refreshing and tasty!

Since IHOP does specialize in breakfast food, they offered more than just the regular maple syrup. There was also blueberry, butter pecan, and strawberry maple syrup to choose from.

The menu was pretty overwhelming and since it was my first time, I wanted to try a variety of things. In the end, we decided to order numerous plates and share. For myself, I created my own French Toast combo. The combo came with eggs, bacon, hashbrown, French Toast, and the option to choose from one of the specialized French Toast. I decided to try the Peaches & Cream Brioche French Toast. I think the regular French Toast was unnecessary to the combo though because who really wants to eat both? The scrambled eggs were pretty bland and flavourless. The hashbrown was decent and not too salty.

The Peaches & Cream Brioche French Toast was like a mix of breakfast and dessert to me. It was enjoyable even though the peaches probably came from a can!

The New York Cheesecake pancakes were unhealthy and delicious! The cheesecake inside the pancakes wasn’t too rich or overwhelming. It was a sweet sin…

The chicken and waffles were my favorite of the night. The chicken used was just like regular chicken fingers but somehow it made a great meal with the thick and fluffy waffles, and dipped into the honey mustard sauce.

Our server recommended the Rooty Tooty pancakes which didn’t look as appealing as the menu had pictured it to be. They were buttermilk pancakes topped with slices of peaches and whipped cream. Nothing special here.

The verdict? It’s like an upgraded version of Denny’s. At least they serve breakfast for dinner though.
