Cask & Barrel

Cask & Barrel isn’t your typical pub. It’s a modern, vintage pub with a rustic interior and the most comfortable seats ever (where else can you sit on plush seats with pillows?!). The place itself is smaller, with patio seating in the front. Cask & Barrel is tucked away on Jasper Ave right beside the 7-11. The atmosphere of it is very cozy and hipster. Cask & Barrel has won my heart over this summer and become one of my favorite yeg eateries. Mainly serving comfort food, they also have paninis and drinks for you to enjoy on those homey seats.

Comfort and home-cooked meals on the menu

I’m a HUGE perogy lover so of course I had to order the Babushka ($12.50). It comes in an order of 8 and the best part was that the sour cream had bits of real bacon in it. The cheese perogies were delicious and weren’t too hard or too soft. I find myself often coming back here just for them!

My friend ordered the Heritage ($17.50) which was meatloaf served with mashed potatoes and some veggies. The meatloaf was cooked with a brown sugar glaze, adding a rich, tangy flavour to it. The mashed potatoes were very soft and fluffy.

My other friend ordered the Shepherd ($14) which was Shepherd’s pie served with either a side salad or tomato soup. Consisting of slow simmered lamb and beef in tomato gravy, it was topped with mashed potatoes covered in cheddar cheese. The potatoes were soft and addictive, while the meat used was seasoned well.
Cask & Barrel is one of my go-to places for a quick lunch and friendly service! I definitely recommend this place for anyone who loves to indulge in comfort.
