Tres Carnales Taqueria

If someone asks me to recommend them some restaurants in Edmonton, Tres Carnales will most likely be one. I still remember the first time that I ate there in January 2012. It was the day that Tres became one of the restaurants that I love introducing people to. Yes, there is a lot of hype surrounding this restaurant but for all the right reasons. Tres Carnales is the closest thing to authentic Mexican street tacos in Edmonton and if you’ve never tried their tacos then you are missing out! It’s very casual with a hipster vibe and the food is fairly quick.

I went here about a month ago with one of my foodie friends to celebrate her birthday. We decided to share a pitcher of sangria because the waitress told us we would get more out of it rather than ordering individual drinks. It was my first time trying out sangria even though I’m not a big wine lover. I wanted something new since I always got the apple Mexican soda everytime. Well, sangria is wine based with a fruity taste and I think that if I actually liked wine then I would’ve enjoyed my drink more.
We started off our lunch with an order of Salsa Y Totopos, which are chips and salsa that is made in-house. You can never go wrong with this classic Mexican snack.

Tomatoes, onions, spices, and everything nice!

For myself, I ordered the Tinga Mixta tacos which I had ordered on a previous visit. It’s $10 for 4 tacos at Tres and trust me, they are filling even though they might not look like it. My tacos had Alberta pork shoulder, chorizo, and bits of potatoes which added a nice texture to it. All the tacos at Tres are made of a double layer of soft shell. There was a right amount of meat on it and it was a bit messy to eat but worth it. I really enjoyed my tacos and was happily satisfied!

My friend ordered the Pescado (fish) tacos, which is a very popular item. The Pescado tacos comes in 3, and it uses Pacific Red Snapper that is lightly battered and fried. I would definitely recommend this if you are stopping by Tres!
Tres Carnales is a must-try restaurant in Edmonton. I am looking forward to the opening of Rostizado, which is going to be an authentic modern Mexican restaurant opened by the owners of Tres.
