Old Spaghetti Factory

If you’re expecting top notch pasta, you won’t find it here. But what you will find is a 3 course meal for $15. Even their website states that they promote “great value”. At Old Spaghetti Factory, every entree includes sourdough bread with whipped butter, minestrone soup or house salad, hot tea or coffee, and spumoni ice cream for dessert. Honestly, this may be the most reasonable pricing I’ve ever seen at a restaurant. The location I went to was in West Edmonton Mall on Bourbon Street. It was just renovated last year and gave off an antique feel. The food was pretty quick and it was alright, better than my usual food court lunch for sure.

To start off my meal, I ordered the French onion soup for an extra $2.50 instead of getting the minestrone soup or house salad. It was super cheesy and would’ve been more enjoyable if they had baked it with less cheese. The biscuits and soup broth itself were of average, and wasn’t worth the extra I had to pay. I also got the hot tea for my drink. The Red Rose tea bag was served inside an odd-looking tea cup that spilt everywhere when I poured it into my regular tea cup. Some spillage probably would’ve been prevented if the tea was served already inside the regular tea cup.

For my entree, I ordered the lunch chicken penne for $10.25. It was decently sized but had a lacking ratio of chicken to pasta. The penne noodles were tossed together with grilled chicken, mushrooms, and some vegetables in a basil cream sauce. The chicken was nicely grilled but the sauce had a bland taste to it. This dish lacked a lot of taste but good thing dessert came next!

The spumoni ice cream was the only part of my lunch that I had actually enjoyed. Spumoni means that it’s a combination of Italian ice creams moulded together with nuts and fruits in between. At OSF, it was  just mint, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream. The mint flavour gave the ice cream a very refreshing taste.
Old Spaghetti Factory is definitely the place to go to if you’re looking for a reasonably priced meal that will fill you up, but not if you want something that your taste buds will fully enjoy!
