Edmonton, Westside

Kobe Japanese Bistro

Kobe Bistro is a small and quaint Japanese restaurant in the westside. The atmosphere is very friendly. I’ve been meaning to check it out for some time now and since it’s close to West Edmonton Mall, we decided to go there.

We ordered the beef tataki for $12. Beef tataki is slices of rare steak served with ponzu sauce and green onions. At Kobe, they serve it on cabbage pieces. I wish there had been more ponzu sauce on our beef tataki because it was lacking a bit of flavour. It also didn’t really have that “rare” taste. The beef tataki was a fairly good-sized portion but it was nothing special.

For rolls, we ordered the crab salad rolls. It was topped with avocado and tobiko (fish eggs), and had crab salad inside it. I liked how there were potato crunch strips with the rolls, which was different from other sushi I’ve tried. This was my personal favorite from the meal.

The second order of rolls was called the Mexican rolls. There was avocado and shrimp tempura inside, with a shrimp filling on top.

Green tea ice cream to finish off the meal!
If you are west side and craving sushi, Kobe Bistro would definitely be the go to place. I don’t remember the exact prices of the rolls we ordered but most of their rolls were decently priced, from $7 to $12. The portion sizes were also pretty filling and there wasn’t any wait.
