1st RND

1st RND is the newest addition to the restaurants on Bourbon Street in West Edmonton Mall. Replacing Hooters, 1st RND is more of a sports bar than a restaurant. Multiple TV screens surround the place, perfect for watching sports games with a beer and appetizers. They specialize in burgers, wings, and craft beer. You can either choose from their 14 different types of burgers or make your own. For wings, there is a long list of different flavours that is put on a scale from inferno (the hottest) to honey garlic (the coolest). Alongside burgers and wings, 1st RND also serves poutine, appetizers, soups, and salads.

Our food set-up. My friend and I ordered appetizers to share because we came during their happy hour so all appetizers were $2 off.
I wasn’t expecting my bellini to be such a huge size for $6.75! It was pretty tasty but I wish it was more peachy.
The pepperoni chips ($8.50) seemed to never end! Maybe because it was only split between 2 people but I think they would’ve been a good pairing with beer and if more people were eating it. They were different and something worth trying out. It definitely got too salty after a few chips though.

The yam fries ($7.50) were served in a small metal bucket. This probably would’ve been my favourite part of the whole meal. It would’ve tasted better if it was served with a dipping sauce, though.

For a place that highlights burgers on the menu, the grand slam sliders ($11.75) were disappointing. I was really looking forward to the pretzel buns but they were too soft and tasted just like plain dough to me. The beef sirloin patties were of average and reminiscent of fast food patties. It seems that 1st RND is a hit or miss with their burgers according to what I’ve heard and these sliders were definitely a miss!
If you’re at the mall and there’s a game that you need to check out, 1st RND would be a good place to consider watching it at. Otherwise is it worth checking out? Maybe if you’re looking for a drink and some appetizers to share!
